FAQ
Placing your order is quite simple and convenient. Simply select your preferred glass shape, insert the required dimensions, specify the thickness of your glass from the drop-down list, choose your glass type, ideal corner finishing and the type of edge work you require. Our list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) will also be helpful in choosing the product you desire in the ordering process. Our customized glass orders are then manufactured and packaged for delivery, to arrive at their destination in 10 to 14 business days.
Flat Polished Edges:
The flat edge mirror is our most popular finish, consisting of sanding and polishing the glass edges to acquire a satiny smooth, glossy finish. This is the best way to highlight the thickness of the glass and this strategy provides for a very modern look to augment your living space.
Seamed Edge:
This choice is for safety as the edges are sanded down to remove ragged edges. Seamed edges are suited for framing due to their unfinished appearance. It is the most economical edge but it’s only recommended if the edges will be completely covered. For Glass Protector Tops, table tops, shelves, or anywhere the edge will be seen, only polished edges should be ordered.
Hydrofluoric acid must be applied on the glass to deliver a frosted look to its surface to produce Acid Etched Glass. Dependent on customer requirements, customized designs can be introduced to the glass in this acid-etching process and this can be accomplished on individual sheets of glass cut to size, be created on a portion of the glass or on large glass sheets.
Tempered or toughened glass is a type of safety glass processed by controlled thermal treatments to increase its strength as opposed to normal glass, which does not require this additional treatment. The manufacturing process places the outer surfaces under compression and the interior in a state of tension. Tempered glass is approximately four times stronger than “regular” or annealed glass. Also known as safety glass, tempered glass fractures into small, relatively harmless pieces. As a result, tempered glass is used in those environments where human safety is an issue. Tempered glass is commonly used for specific applications such as shower enclosures, glass tops, glass railings and so on. Our heat-treated tempered glass meets the current North American standards of ANSI Z97.1-04, ASTM C1048 and CAN/CGSB-12.1-M90, which are currently in place for safety glass. Tempered glass cannot be cut, polished or drilled. All of the glass work must be performed prior to the tempering process.
The biggest glass we provide online is 119-5/16″ x 79 15/16″. Should you be interested in a larger piece of glass, our specialist glass professionals will be happy to provide you with a quote. Call us now on 1 (800) 897-2851 or you can request a quote online.
1/32’’ Eased Corner Finish:
for safety purposes, the tip at each corner is slightly polished to remove sharp protrusions. This technique is known as the blunt edge. “Tips off” or “points off” are other terms used to describe this process.
The Radius Corner Finish:
This encompasses cutting the corners of the glass into a radius shape (round shape), which is then polished to give a smoother, safer finish. Corner radius describes how rounded the corners are on a rectangular glass cut. The term “corner radius” refers to the radius of the circle created by extending the corner arc to form a complete circle. Rounded corners are available up to a 4’’ radius.

1.2 Visual Evaluation and Tolerances
Quench marks, anisotropy, roller wave, and minor optical distortion are inherent to the tempering process and shall not be considered defects when the glass is viewed under normal viewing conditions, from a customary viewing distance, and without deliberate inspection, in accordance with CAN-CGSB-12.1 principles.
Visual characteristics of tempered glass and tempered insulated glass units shall be evaluated as follows:
● Up to 3 mmoutside the Normal Field of Vision (NFV)
● ± 2 mmwithin the Normal Field of Vision (NFV)
Evaluation Conditions
Evaluation shall be conducted:
● Under normal lighting conditions
● At customary viewing distances
● Without deliberate or close inspection
2. Insulated Glass Units (IG / Thermos) – Visual Characteristics and Tolerances
2.1 Overall Unit Dimensions
The dimensional tolerances for finished insulated glass units (IGUs) shall be as follows:
● ± 1.5 mm (± 0.06 in.)for double-paneunits
● ± 2.3 mm (± 0.09 in.)for triple-paneunits
These tolerances apply to the overall outside dimensionsof the sealed unit and include normal manufacturing variations.
2.2 Visual Quality of Insulated Glass Units
Insulated glass units shall be evaluated for visual quality in accordance with CAN-CGSB-12.1 principles and shall be assessed only within the Normal Field of Vision (NFV).
Visual characteristics located outside the NFV or concealed by framing or adjacent construction shall not constitute defects.
3. Laminated Glass – Visual Characteristics and Tolerances
Laminated glass may exhibit visual characteristics inherent to the lamination process. These may include minor interlayer waviness, slight edge visibility of the interlayer, small air bubbles or inclusions, and minor optical distortion.
Such characteristics are normal and shall not be considered defects when the glass is viewed under normal viewing conditions, from a customary viewing distance, and without deliberate or close inspection.
3.1 Tolerances
● Interlayer alignment: Minor ply misalignment is acceptable up to ± 1/8 in. (3.2 mm)
● Air bubbles and inclusions: Air bubbles or inclusions located outside the Normal Field of Vision (NFV) are acceptable up to ± 2 mm
Visual evaluation is limited to the Normal Field of Vision (NFV). Characteristics located outside the Normal Field of Vision, near edges, or concealed by framing, hardware, or adjacent construction are considered acceptable.
3.2 Normal Field of Vision (NFV)
The Normal Field of Visionis the area of glass visible under normal viewing conditions when observed from a customary viewing distance and normal eye level, without deliberate or close inspection.
The Normal Field of Vision excludes:
● Areas near the edges of the glass
● Areas concealed by framing, clamps, posts, or other hardware
● Areas viewed at extreme angles or under non-standard lighting conditions

The glass is up around my deck and I could not be happier! When I decided to put glass around my lakefront deck, I had no idea how to measure it or where to even begin, but after many questions and such expedient and friendly replies from Glass Supply, I am very pleased.Their product is excellent quality, service is impeccable, delivery was quick and I just love the look! Thank you Glass Supply.

I couldn’t have better things to say about my experience with this coming (Will and Alex specifically). The ordering process was easy, delivery was fast (and cheap…even though it was about 2500 pounds of glass, for a 135 foot railing), and the service throughout the experience was great. The products themselves are very high quality (don’t be fooled buying cheap spigots on Amazon, buy the heavy ones from these guys), and the glass is very strong and crystal clear. When I was missing one tiny part (little plastic spacers), it arrived couriered the next day at no charge.
And bear in mind, all of this was during a pandemic in early 2020…these guys managed to get it done even though the world was in a very weird place.
Just placed another order for a different project and I wouldn’t think about purchasing from anyone else…this is a great little Canadian company.

We needed a railing that did not obstruct our panoramic view.
We live on a remote island off the grid – careful packing so that the glass would arrive safely was critical.
It had to be affordable.
Our remote location meant we needed help in design and we needed guidance on how to install the railing.
Glass Supply was a 5 star on all points.
Bonus- even though we are exposed to the ocean, high winds and storms the glass stays clean without touching it. This was a pleasant surprise.
